Christopher Berdal - Director
Christoffer Berdal is regularly described as one of Denmark’s most sought-after theatre directors and is considered to have significantly influenced the course of Danish theatre since his debut in 1998. With over 20 years of more than 80 successful productions behind him at the most prestigious theatres in Denmark - Det Kongelige Teater & Opera, to Betty Nansen Teatret, Aarhus Teater, Folketeatret, Den Færøske Nationalscene, Odense Teater and more, he has directed within an astonishing range of genres on stage - Scandinavian classics such as Holberg and Ibsen, musicals, Shakespeare, notable new Danish and international drama.
Just one year after graduating from Statens Teaterskole - the Danish National School of Theatre, Berdal was awarded the prestigious Reumert Awards' Talent Prize for direction, and has been nominated for the award repeatedly since then. Berdal has worked internationally on important political pieces. In Jordan he created “Who Are we?” live theatre capturing the thoughts and dreams of young Palestinians and Iraqis trapped in a refugee camp outside Amman. In the Malawi bush Berdal held theatre workshops with HIV-positive performers. In 2007 Berdal directed "Home Sweet Home" which deals with the toll on Scandinavian soldiers in war-torn Iraq. The play was a sensation in Denmark and he was afterwards invited to also direct it in New York for the Scandinavian American Theatre.
Christoffer Berdal will direct our spring production of 2025, presenting award-winning Broadway playwright sensation Lucas Hnath's THE THIN PLACE in Copenhagen /Denmark.
